Tesco invites you to “Unleash the sex kitten inside…”

December 20th, 2006

We just came across an article here which reveals that Tesco has upset some customers by selling Peekaboo pole dancing kits on its Tesco Direct website.

According to the article:

Dr Adrian Rogers, of family campaigning group Family Focus said yesterday that the kit would “destroy children’s lives”.

He said: “Tesco is Britain’s number one chain, this is extremely dangerous. It is an open invitation to turn the youngest children on to sexual behaviour.

“This will be sold to four, five and six-year olds. This is a most dangerous toy that will contribute towards destroying children’s innocence.”

He added: “Children are being encouraged to dance round a pole which is interpreted in the adult world as a phallic symbol.

Strong words indeed and perhaps a bit of an over-reaction since we are not aware of many four or five year olds regularly purchasing goods online? It does appear, however, that the pole dancing kit was in the toys section of the site, which could be considered inapropriate. It has now been restricted to the ‘fitness’ section, proving that sex and sex toys are clearly the way to a healthier heart!

The article is an interesting read and the comments prove that attitudes to sex toys are still evolving.

In the meantime, don’t mess around with cheap immitations, we would recommend you have a look at the X-Pole Professional model available in our fun sex toys category.

Happy dancing!

Sex toy safety

September 1st, 2006

It is not just our own sex toys guide that proves that sex toys are safe, as long as you use them appropriately (see guide to cleaning sex toys).

A recently published article on the NHS Direct site backs this up, stating the importance of cleaning your sex toys. Nice to see a positive view on sex toy usage:

“Sex aids are fast becoming more acceptable in society, and there should be no guilt or ‘taboo’ involved. They’re not just for fun – some aids are actually recommended to help people who have difficulty reaching orgasm.”

Don’t forget, we stock sex toy cleaning solutions in our sex toy essentials category - or just search for product code N1177.

Tax deductible sex toys

September 1st, 2006

It seems that the Australians have a healthy financial attitude to sex toys.

Workers in the sex industry, including prostitutes, strippers and lap dancers can now claim tax deductions for sex toys and lingerie as the Australian Taxation Office issued a list of deductible items for the sex industry.

Condoms, lubricants, gels and oils are among the official list of items that these workers can claim against tax, according to a fact sheet issued on the office’s Web site.

Long live tax free sex toys!

The French say ‘non merci’ to sex toys

August 25th, 2006

It appears that sex toys are not high on the menu for the French.

Despite a reputation for being passionate lovers, the French are shy when it comes to sex toys according to an article on Yahoo.

According to a study published by condom makers Durex, only 14 per cent of French women have a vibrator, compared to 43 per cent of American and British women.

Times are changing though and it looks as though French women are embracing sex toys and breaking down the traditional sex toys taboos. Perhaps that will put some va va voom into their lives…..

Sex Toys banned from Love Island

July 17th, 2006

Contestants from celebrity ’Love Island’ are in uproar after bosses ban sex toys.

According to the rumours, Alicia Douvall was reprimanded for trying to sneak one past security and Sophie Anderton was furious with the news that she would be left unfulfilled during her stay on the island, telling the news of the world:

“I got lip balm into the jungle for I’m A Celebrity, so I will do my best this time round.”

Not so much self love going on then on the island… Seems like a crying shame as what else is there to do on the island without the pleasure of sex toys?

An interesting sex toys question and answers session over at Yahoo! about sex toys.

Just goes to show what we have always said - sex toys are pure fun!

Vibrators in high street stores?

April 20th, 2006

Some conflicting reports here about whether Target (a large US retailer) is planning to sell vibrators in its stores.

Claims by Elexa by Trojan suggest that the vibrators will be available in store by the end of the month, sold in discreet packaging in the feminine care aisle but representatives from Target denied that vibrators were being added to the range.

Will we soon see the day when vibrators are sold alongside tooth brushes on the high street?

Sex is good for you

March 7th, 2006

Interesting post about the ’sex doctor’ here.

Just before a sex festival in Hong Kong, the sex doctor promotes the benefits of treating sex in a positive light and urges us to focus on the more pleasurable effects that sex promotes.

Sex toys are one such way to have fun and you can have fun on your own. Our attitudes to sex toys article looks at some traditional views regarding sex toys and how sexual pleasure is often associated with guilt.

Sex toys are a healthy, safe and natural way to explore your sexuality and the sex doctor is no doubt a great fan. So if you are feeling down, treat yourself to a new toy and be a healthier person as a result!
